Welcome to the Green knitworld!

For those mad needleworkers among us who just can't keep our politics out of our handicraft, here is a knitting blog where we can share patterns, share our triumphs, and commiserate on our fiber flops. Links to organic and alternative fiber sources and to great Green blogs and websites are also here.

Got a pattern for a sweater with a green message? Found an excruciatingly politically correct cooperative making 100% organic hemp rya rugs? Post it here!

Diedre,

You Rock! What a great idea. I am a crafter who has been considering knitting and croceting. I usually stick to beads, but it is too hard to travel with them. So I am going to work on a more mobile craft for meetings. I have bookmarked and linked you to my own blog, so I will check back often as this great new resource develops.

Thanks Deirdre! This is the place for everybody who's ever been the person at a Green Party meeting working some needles and yarn.

I'm going to try and work a simple Earthflower bag pattern, suitable for an advanced beginner.

go well,
Becky

Oh m'gosh! I just now found this - thanks to Echo's blog (which I admittedly haven't read in awhile).
I've been crocheting for awhile and want to learn to knit. I'm expecting a grandchild in December (at the ripe old age of 47!) and want to make lots of baby stuff.

I use only yarns that I find at thrift stores or are given to me. I have this site:

http://www.blueskyoriginals.com

for my personal craft stuff.

What a great site. I am currently working on a graduate school project about the affects of consumerism in the US on the environment. One of my studies revolves around plastic water bottles, and the lack of recycling involved.

I'm interested in finding sources for recycled "green" spun yarn, made out of plastic water bottles. I want to learn to knit, for one of my projects and I want to use this type of yarn.

Also, I am in Howard County, MD, so I'd be interested in meeting up with anyone who might be willing to teach a newbie to knit :)
